Tooth Contouring and Reshaping
If you have one or more front teeth that are too long, crooked, jagged or overlapping, the procedure of tooth contouring and reshaping can be used to cosmetically enhance their appearance.
Tooth contouring involves shaving off a part of the enamel of the tooth. It is a quick procedure and takes anywhere between thirty to sixty minutes to complete. We may take X-Rays of your teeth before starting the procedure to see the amount of enamel present and how much can be safely removed. The enamel is then sanded off in small portions and the tooth is sculpted into a better shape, eliminating imperfections. The sides of the teeth are shaped by using sanding strips in a back and forth motion. Once the procedure is over, the size and shape of your teeth are much better matched, giving a better overall appearance and making them seem less crowded.
Who is suitable for undergoing tooth contouring and reshaping?
People with minor imperfections in the appearance of their teeth, such as ragged edges, chips, minor wear to the biting surfaces, slight overlapping, pointy canine teeth, can undergo tooth contouring to enhance their smile. But first, we need to make sure your teeth are healthy enough for the procedure via a thorough examination of your dental health and the condition of the tooth that the procedure will be performed upon. Tooth contouring and reshaping is often combined with other procedures such as teeth whitening, crowns and veneers to provide great results for your smile.
Tooth contouring and reshaping can quickly change your smile in the most amazing way. For more information about this procedure, and to know if you are an ideal candidate for the treatment, please call the office of Miller Family Dentistry at (586) 248-4438. Our experts will be happy to help you.
