Inlays and Onlays
Dental Inlays and Onlays Miller Family Dentistry offers a variety of restorative treatments to help you regain the look and function of damaged and decayed teeth. One of these treatments is inlays and onlays. An inlay or onlay is a custom filling manufactured using composite material or porcelain. It is made in a dental laboratory and permanently placed on the teeth to repair and restore their appearance and function. Inlays and onlays are conservative restorations for teeth with large fillings or teeth that have been damaged due to trauma or decay. Very less of the natural tooth structure needs to be removed for their installation. Inlays and onlays can be used to restore: Fractured or broken teeth Decayed teeth Cosmetic enhancement Large fillings Fractured fillings The procedure of installing an inlay or onlay onto the teeth requires two visits to our office. In the first visit, impressions of your teeth are taken and sent to a dental lab for preparing your custom inlay or onlay. We will then numb the tooth and remove old fillings and decay.
The tooth is then thoroughly cleaned and flushed and shaped to allow for the restoration to fit properly. A temporary filling is applied to protect the tooth while your inlay or onlay is made by a dental laboratory. At your next visit, the temporary filling is removed, and your new inlay or onlay restoration is cemented onto the tooth. After ensuring that your bite is proper and the restoration fits in your mouth aptly, we will give you instructions on how to take proper care of your newly restored teeth. If you have damaged teeth that need restoration, please schedule an appointment at our office to know if inlays and onlays are a good option for you. Call us at (586) 558-6684.
